Private Jet Charter Prices: What Is Included? (Complete Breakdown)

The table below gives a complete picture of what the hourly charter rate covers and what falls outside it. Use this as a checklist when comparing quotes from any operator or broker.

Three items appear in every legitimate charter quote without exception.

Aircraft Access

The entire aircraft is reserved exclusively for your party for the contracted flight time. No other passengers share the aircraft. This exclusivity is the foundational difference between charter and commercial air travel.

Two Certificated Pilots

Two FAA-licensed pilots are required for all chartered aircraft. Captain and first officer wages are included in the hourly rate. On aircraft that require a third crew member (some large aircraft or extended international operations), the additional crew is noted in the quote.

Fuel for the Contracted Flight

Fuel for the route from your departure to your destination is included in the hourly rate. This covers the charter flight and any positioning flight (empty repositioning to reach your departure airport).

Federal Excise Tax (FET): 7.5% on Domestic Flights

FET is a US government tax on domestic air transportation collected by the charter operator and remitted to the IRS. It applies to every domestic US charter flight.

Positioning and Repositioning Fees

A positioning fee is included in the quote when the closest available aircraft must fly empty  from its home base to your departure airport before your charter begins. This is a real operational cost that the operator passes through.

Daily Minimums

Operators set a minimum billing floor per day, typically 2-3 hours. If your actual flight time is shorter, you pay the minimum. A 1-hour NYC to Boston flight with a 2-hour daily minimum is billed as 2 hours at the full hourly rate.

Landing Fees

Every airport charges a landing fee for aircraft use of the runway, ramp, and facilities. Private aviation terminals (FBOs) may also charge a handling fee for ground services. These fees vary by airport and aircraft weight.

De-Icing

De-icing is required any time ice, snow, or frost accumulates on aircraft surfaces before departure. It is an unscheduled cost that cannot be predicted at booking time and is billed at actual cost.

• Type I de-icing fluid: $1,000-$2,500 per application; basic anti-icing for light frost
• Type IV de-icing fluid: $2,000-$5,000 per application; heavy snow and ice conditions
• Multiple applications: required if aircraft is delayed during active snowfall
• De-icing is never preventable on affected days; it is a safety requirement not a discretionary service

Crew Hotel and Per Diem

When a charter requires crew to overnight away from their home base, hotel and per diem costs are passed through to the client. Transatlantic and other long international charters routinely generate crew overnight costs of $500-$2,000 per night per crew member.  These are included in your quote upon booking.

These items appear in some quotes but not others. Always confirm their inclusion before comparing quotes from different operators.

International flights add several cost categories not present on domestic flights. The total international surcharge typically adds 10-20% to the base flight time cost.

Is fuel included in the hourly charter rate? 

Yes, fuel for your contracted route is included in the hourly private jet charter rate. However,  some operators apply fuel surcharges if global aviation fuel prices exceed specific thresholds.

What is Federal Excise Tax on a private jet charter? 

Federal Excise Tax (FET) is a mandatory 7.5% US government tax applied to all domestic private jet charter flights. On a $30,000 domestic jet charter, FET adds $2,250 to your total cost. FET does not apply to nearly all international flights.

Are landing fees included in a charter price? 

Yes, landing fees are included at the time you sign. Landing fees range from $200 at small regional airports to over $5,000 at major international hubs. Always verify if your quote includes these fees.

What is a repositioning fee on a charter flight? 

A repositioning fee covers the cost of flying a private jet empty from its home base to your departure airport. Chartering a jet already based at your departure airport eliminates this costly empty-leg positioning fee.

Is Wi-Fi included in a private jet charter? 

In-flight Wi-Fi is included in about half of all private jet charter quotes. When not included, domestic Wi-Fi charges typically run $500 to $2,500 per flight. Always confirm connectivity speeds and costs before booking your charter.

Are international permits included in a charter price? 

Yes, international overflight and landing permits are included in the quote, typically adding $500 to $2,500 per country. International private jet charters also incur Eurocontrol navigation fees and handling fees, which the operator estimates upfront before booking.

What is a daily minimum on a charter flight? 

A daily minimum is a billing floor, usually two flight hours per day, required to charter a private jet. If your flight takes only one hour, the operator still bills you for the two-hour daily minimum constraint.

Is Hogani Jets a direct air carrier?

No. Hogani Jets is an air charter broker and does not own or operate aircraft. All charters are coordinated through FAA Part 135 certificated direct air carriers who hold full operational control. Each operator certificate, insurance coverage, and safety record is independently reviewed before Hogani Jets coordinates a booking.

Do I pay for private jet de-icing? 

Yes, aircraft de-icing is not included in the initial private jet charter quote. Because weather is unpredictable, de-icing fluid is billed post-flight. Depending on jet size and ice accumulation, de-icing costs range from $1,500 to over $10,000 per application.

Do I pay for the private jet crew's hotel? 

Yes, if your private jet charter requires the pilots to stay overnight, you must pay crew overnight fees. These fees cover hotel rooms, meals, and ground transportation, typically running $600 to $1,200 per crew member per night.

Are empty leg flights cheaper to charter? 

Yes, empty leg private jet charters are discounted up to 75% off standard rates. These occur when a jet flies empty to its next scheduled passenger. However, empty legs offer zero flexibility regarding departure times or routing changes.
