Cessna Citation VII

The Citation VII first flew in February 1991 and received FAA certification in January 1992. Cessna built 119 aircraft before closing the line in 2000 when the Citation Sovereign wasa announced as its successor.

The Citation VII started with the Citation III airframe and made targeted improvements.

Engines were the most significant change. The TFE731-4R-2S replaced the Citation III's TFE731-3B. Each engine produced 4,080 lbf, a 430 lbf increase per engine. That extra thrust improved climb rate, cruise speed, and hot-and-high runway performance.

Range increased from 2,070 nm to 2,300 nm. The heavier MTOW (23,000 vs 22,000 lbs) allowed more fuel for longer sectors. Climb rate rose from 4,000 fpm to 4,200 fpm, cutting time to cruise altitude.

The cabin received more soundproofing, reducing noise by 1 dBa versus the Citation III. The lavatory was enlarged and can be configured as a dressing room. A refreshment center, DVD system, and TV screens were added as standard options.

Avionics moved to the Honeywell SPZ-8000 five-tube digital suite. This system was more capable than the Citation III's SPZ-650 and was later retrofitted on many Citation VIs.

A midsize jet trades some efficiency for more cabin room, range, and capacity than a light jet provides.
