The Hawker 4000 is a super midsize twin-engine jet built by Hawker Beechcraft. Certified in November 2006 and delivered from 2008, 73 aircraft were produced. Two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW308A engines produce 6,900 lbf each, per Pratt & Whitney Canada specification data. Its carbon composite fuselage made it the first super midsize jet of its kind. Every aircraft before the Hawker 4000 in the super midsize class used aluminum for the fuselage. The Hawker 4000 was the first to use carbon composite.

Carbon composite is lighter than aluminum for the same structural strength. A lighter fuselage allows the aircraft to carry more fuel for the same takeoff weight. That translates directly into range.

According to Flight International data, the Hawker 4000 achieves 3,341 nautical miles of range. Its lighter composite structure is a direct contributor to that figure at a 39,500-pound maximum takeoff weight.

The cabin also benefits. Composite structure provides more interior space for the same external dimensions than a comparable aluminum frame. The 25-foot cabin and 6.5-foot width reflect that structural efficiency.

Per ACS, special vibration isolators are integrated into the Hawker 4000 structure. These reduce cabin noise to 63 dBa at cruise, quieter than the Hawker 1000's 67 dBa. The composite fuselage also contributes to the lower noise floor by reducing structural resonance points common in aluminum construction.

The Hawker 4000 story has two phases: extraordinary promise and then an abrupt end.

In December 2005, an order for 50 Hawker 4000 aircraft was signed, marking the largest single commercial order in Raytheon Aircraft's history at the time. In May 2008, an additional 10 aircraft were ordered in a contract valued at over $330 million.

But deliveries did not begin until 2008 due to certification delays. The global financial crisis hit business aviation hard in 2008 to 2010. Orders collapsed across the industry, and many were canceled.

In May 2013, Hawker Beechcraft decided to sell its jet division and focus on propeller aircraft. Production ended with 73 aircraft delivered. The program was offered for sale but found no buyer.
