Israel Aircraft Industries certified the Astra SPX in 1994. Production ran under the IAI name through 2001, then continued as the Gulfstream G100 until 2006. Winglets, the Honeywell TFE731-40R-200G engine, and Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 avionics define this generation of the Astra platform.

The Astra SP and the Astra SPX share the same fuselage. IAI made four material changes when it introduced the SPX generation in 1994.

Engines came first. The TFE731-40R-200G replaced the SP's TFE731-3, adding 550 lbf of thrust per engine. That 15 percent increase improved climb rate, high-altitude cruise, and hot-and-high performance at airports like Aspen and Telluride.

Winglets followed. The SPX was the first Astra generation to carry them. They reduced induced drag and added meaningful range over the SP. They also gave the aircraft a distinctive ramp presence that still identifies it today.

Avionics moved to Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4. The SP had older instruments. The SPX gained a glass panel with integrated flight management and modern situational awareness. Most operators have since retrofitted ADS-B Out and WAAS/LPV approaches.

Service ceiling rose from 39,700 feet to 45,000 feet. That extra altitude keeps the aircraft above most weather systems and commercial traffic on longer routes.
