Turboprops reach Vernon Regional (YVE) directly, at $1,300 to $2,500 per hour. Its single 3,517-foot runway suits a King Air 350 or Pilatus PC-12. Jets fly into Kelowna International (YLW), about 35 minutes south by road. Kelowna light jet charters run $2,300 to $3,800 hourly; midsize jets, $2,800 to $5,500. Vernon has no customs, so US flights clear at Kelowna. SilverStar Mountain Resort is about 30 minutes from Vernon's airport by road. Hogani Jets coordinates every charter through licensed Part 135 operators or carriers approved by the applicable aviation authority.

Vernon is the main city of the North Okanagan, set between Okanagan Lake and Kalamalka Lake. It had 44,519 residents in 2021 and was incorporated in 1892. Ranching and fruit orchards built its early economy, and tourism now leads.

Vernon has no scheduled airline service of its own. Most airline travellers land at Kelowna and drive north. A charter lands a turboprop 10 minutes from town, or a jet at Kelowna with a car waiting.

  • SilverStar access: the ski village sits about 30 minutes from Vernon.
  • Golf and lake trips: Predator Ridge and Kalamalka Lake are close to both airports.
  • Short hops: Vancouver and Calgary are under an hour by turboprop.

Can private jets land at Vernon airport?

Turboprops land at Vernon Regional (YVE) on its 3,517-foot runway. Business jets normally use Kelowna International (YLW), with 8,900 feet of runway and customs. Kelowna is roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Vernon by car.

The airport sits at Okanagan Landing, about 4 km southwest of downtown, and has operated there since 1947. Its single asphalt runway, 05/23, is 3,517 feet long and 75 feet wide. Jet fuel is available, though an after-hours call-out charge may apply.

There is no control tower, and a skydiving drop zone sits on the northwest side. The operator selects the handler, and Hogani Jets confirms it in your trip details.

Matt's Recommendation

For Vernon, I start with the group size. Up to eight people, a turboprop into Vernon is hard to beat; bigger groups fly into Kelowna.

Vernon does not appear as an airport of entry in published airport data. An international charter therefore makes its first Canadian landing where CBSA officers work. Kelowna International is the natural choice, about 10 minutes away by air.

Does Vernon Regional Airport have customs for private flights?

No. Vernon is not listed as an airport of entry, and CANPASS does not cover charter flights. International charters clear CBSA at Kelowna International first. A turboprop can then hop north to Vernon, or passengers can drive.

From inside Canada, yes, by turboprop. Private jet charter flights to Vernon from the US, or in larger aircraft, land at Kelowna.

  • Vancouver: about 47 minutes in the air by turboprop to YVE.
  • Calgary: just under an hour by turboprop.
  • Edmonton: about 1 hour 15 minutes by turboprop, or under an hour by jet to Kelowna.
  • US cities: clear customs in Kelowna, then continue by road or turboprop.

  • Passports: every passenger needs a valid passport. Non-US citizens should check Canadian entry rules for their nationality.
  • eTA: non-US visitors from visa-exempt countries complete an Electronic Travel Authorization online.
  • First landing: international charters clear CBSA at Kelowna before reaching Vernon.
  • Orchard produce: declare fruit and plants when returning to the US.

SilverStar Mountain Resort is 22 km northeast of Vernon, in the Monashee Mountains. It offers 3,282 acres of skiable terrain and about 700 cm of snow a year. The season usually runs from late November to mid-April, and the resort has hosted FIS World Cup events.

Which airport is closest to SilverStar Mountain Resort?

Vernon Regional (YVE) is closest, about 30 minutes from the village by road. Jets land at Kelowna International, roughly an hour away. Winter tires are needed on the mountain road.

Yes. US dogs and cats over three months old need a rabies certificate to enter Canada and face no quarantine. Pets travelling from elsewhere follow CFIA's country-specific rules. Confirm the operator's pet policy before you book.

  • Aircraft choice: a turboprop into Vernon often costs less than a jet into Kelowna.
  • Customs: US trips add a Kelowna stop, by road or a short hop.
  • Ski season: Christmas and spring break weeks book up first.
  • Jet fuel timing: after-hours fuel at Vernon may carry a call-out charge.
  • Multi-day stays: crew hotels and aircraft parking add to the quote.

What is the cheapest way to fly private to Vernon?

A turboprop from Vancouver or Calgary straight into Vernon, from $1,300 an hour, usually costs the least. It skips the drive from Kelowna. Empty legs back to Kelowna or Vancouver can lower the price further.

Most empty legs in the area start or end at Kelowna, where jets are based and refuel. Turboprops returning to Vancouver or Calgary also pass through Vernon. Ski weekends and summer lake season produce the most.

Request Vernon empty legs at charter@hoganijets.com or +1-855-660-0573.

Vernon's best stays are wellness resorts above Okanagan Lake, golf resorts at Predator Ridge, and slopeside lodges at SilverStar. Lakefront homes on Kalamalka Lake suit families and groups. Downtown hotels serve shorter business trips.

  • Kalamalka Lake: beaches and turquoise water just south of the city.
  • Predator Ridge: a 36-hole golf resort between Vernon and Kelowna.
  • Historic O'Keefe Ranch: a preserved early ranch north of town.
  • Davison Orchards: a family farm with fresh fruit and seasonal events.
  • Vernon Winter Carnival: one of the largest winter carnivals in North America.

  • Ski bags: a PC-12's large rear cargo door suits skis and snowboards.
  • Golf groups: several club bags can push a group into a larger jet via Kelowna.
  • Lake weekends: tell the operator about coolers or water gear in advance.
  • Summer heat: on hot afternoons a short runway can limit payload, so fly early.

Vernon runs on Pacific Time and uses the Canadian dollar. Summers are warm to hot, while winters are cold but mild by Canadian standards. Winter valley cloud can affect approaches at Vernon, so Kelowna serves as the backup.

Ski, golf, and lake travellers book through Hogani Jets, a private jet booking service in Vernon. The company's founder, Matt Hogan, brings a record of 2,000-plus private flights in about 90 countries. Group size decides the airport on every VIP private jet charter to Vernon.

Every operator's Part 135 certificate, insurance coverage, and safety record is independently reviewed before booking, with ARGUS, Wyvern, or IS-BAO ratings considered where they exist as one part of that review.

  • Airport matched: Vernon for turboprops, Kelowna for jets and customs.
  • Ski plan: SilverStar transfers timed to your landing.
  • Weather backup: Kelowna set as the alternate for winter cloud.
