A private jet to London costs $5,500 to $20,000 per hour for transatlantic heavy and ultra-long-range jets. Within Europe, light jets start at $2,300 per hour. Flight time is about 7 hours from New York and 1 hour from Paris. Most private jets land at Farnborough (EGLF / FAB), Luton or Biggin Hill, not Heathrow. US, Canadian and EU visitors need a UK ETA, costing £20, before boarding. UK departures on large private jets also carry Air Passenger Duty of up to £1,141 per passenger. Hogani Jets coordinates every charter through licensed Part 135 operators or carriers approved by the applicable aviation authority.

London is Europe's busiest city for private aviation, with more business airports around it than any other capital. That choice is the real planning decision. The right airport depends on where you are staying, when you land, and how far you are flying.

  • Business airports: land at Farnborough, Luton, or Biggin Hill and skip the world's busiest airline terminals.
  • Nonstop from the US: heavy and ultra-long-range jets fly New York to London in about 7 hours.
  • London as a European hub: Paris, Geneva, Nice, and Ibiza are all one to two hours away by light jet.

Why most private jets avoid Heathrow?

Heathrow is a slot-controlled airline hub, and business aviation there faces slot limits, high fees and long taxi times. Farnborough is a dedicated business aviation airport with an 8,005-foot runway and its own private terminal. Farnborough is capped at 50,000 flights a year and keeps set opening hours. Late arrivals often use Luton or Stansted instead.

Every London business airport handles private passengers away from airline crowds. The operator selects the handler, and Hogani Jets confirms it in your trip details.

Airport

What to Expect

Farnborough

Airport-run private terminal, customs and immigration on site, and cars at the aircraft.

Luton and Stansted

Several private FBOs with lounges, customs processing and ramp-side car access.

Biggin Hill

Private terminals serving the closest business airport to central London.

London City

Dedicated private aviation terminal, minutes from Canary Wharf and the City.

“ For a transatlantic arrival, I usually land clients at Farnborough. It is built for private jets, customs take minutes, and the drive into Mayfair is predictable. If the meeting is in the City and the aircraft is approved, London City saves an hour. Heathrow is almost never the answer.”

Yes, from almost anywhere, if the aircraft has the range. Flights into London from the US usually run faster than the return, thanks to tailwinds across the Atlantic.

Which private jets fly New York to London nonstop?

New York to London is about 2,970 nautical miles. Heavy jets such as the Challenger 650 and Falcon 900LX fly it nonstop in both directions. Some super midsize jets manage it eastbound with a light load. Westbound headwinds and a full cabin cut practical range, so midsize jets usually stop in Canada or Iceland.

  • Passports: every passenger needs a valid passport. Non-US citizens should check UK entry rules for their nationality.
  • UK ETA: US, Canadian, and EU citizens need an Electronic Travel Authorisation, costing £20, before boarding. It covers private flights too.
  • Visas: some nationalities, including Indian citizens, need a UK visa instead of an ETA.
  • Manifests: the operator files a General Aviation Report with UK authorities for every arrival and departure.
  • Cash: declare £10,000 or more when entering or leaving the UK.
  • Customs: passengers clear immigration at the private terminal, then drive straight from the aircraft.

How much Air Passenger Duty do private jet passengers pay in the UK?

From April 1, 2026, a higher duty rate applies to UK departures on private jets. It covers aircraft of 20 tonnes or more with fewer than 19 seats. Per passenger, it is £142 up to 2,000 miles, £1,097 for 2,001 to 5,500 miles, and £1,141 beyond. Heavy and ultra-long-range jets usually qualify; smaller jets pay lower rates.

The duty applies only to departures from the UK, not arrivals. A London to New York return leg on a heavy jet falls in the £1,097 band. Your quote includes it in the all-in price.

Pets must enter Great Britain through an approved route, even on a private jet. Several London business airports, including Farnborough, Biggin Hill, Luton and Stansted, are approved for charter operators. Pets need a microchip, a rabies vaccination and a health certificate, and dogs need tapeworm treatment before arrival. Tell Hogani Jets about any pet at the quote stage.

Every London charter carries one all-in price in your quote, built on the hourly rate. Quotes are in US dollars, so the sterling cost moves with the exchange rate.

  • Air Passenger Duty: charged per passenger on UK departures, highest on heavy and larger jets.
  • Positioning: a one-way trip may include the aircraft's return if none is based nearby.
  • Daily minimums: 2 billed hours for super midsize and smaller, and 3 hours for heavy and larger jets.
  • Winter de-icing: frosty mornings can add de-icing costs, flagged as soon as they are likely.
  • Event weeks: Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and the British Grand Prix fill airports and raise demand.

  • May to September: peak season, with the longest days and the busiest event calendar. Book three to four weeks ahead.
  • October and November: quieter airports, with London Fashion Week and the theatre season still busy.
  • December to February: fewest private flights, but fog and frost can bring de-icing delays.

London's summer events drive the heaviest private traffic. The Chelsea Flower Show runs in May, and Royal Ascot in June. Wimbledon runs from late June into July, and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone takes place each July.
