Caribbean Private Jet Charter

Rates listed are hourly, by category of aircraft. Most charters carry a two-hour minimum.

The right island for a Caribbean charter depends on its runway and distance from home. The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos sit within two hours of Florida. Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands suit US travellers without passports. St Barts, Mustique and Anguilla need a smaller aircraft for the last leg.

Every private jet charter Caribbean price starts with an hourly rate. Turboprops for island hops cost $1,300 to $2,500 an hour. Light jets flying out of Florida cost $2,300 to $3,800 hourly. Super midsize cabins from New York run $4,500 to $7,500, and heavy jets from Europe $5,500 to $8,500.

These one-way estimates cover the most requested gateways from Miami, New York and London.

Each estimate multiplies flight time by the hourly range for its aircraft. Any leg below sixty minutes carries only its hourly rate. Positioning, landing, handling, customs costs, and taxes are included in your all-in quote. The only possible day-of extras are de-icing, hangar fees, credit card fees (3% to 5%) and wait time.

Twelve gateway airports handle most Caribbean private jet flights, each with customs and named FBOs. Nassau, Barbados, Punta Cana and San Juan have runways over 10,000 feet. Beef Island in the BVI is limited to light jets at 4,645 feet. St Barts takes turboprops only.

Caribbean island hopping by private plane usually means a jet to a gateway, then turboprops between islands. A private plane charter Caribbean hop from St Maarten to St Barts takes about 15 minutes. San Juan to Beef Island takes about 30 minutes by turboprop. Each border crossing means customs on landing.

Short island runways decide the aircraft. St Barts, at 2,119 feet, accepts turboprops only, flown by specially trained pilots in daylight. Beef Island takes jets up to light size. Larger cabins wait at the gateway while guests finish by turboprop.

The best private jet charter Caribbean choice for most trips is a light jet from Florida. It reaches Nassau, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay or San Juan nonstop. New York groups move up to a midsize jet for Turks and Caicos. Barbados from New York needs a super midsize jet.

US citizens need no passport for Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands when flying from the mainland. Every other Caribbean island requires a valid passport for all passengers. Non-US citizens should check each island's entry rules for their nationality. St Maarten asks arrivals to complete an online entry form.

Every arrival clears customs and immigration at its first airport of entry, usually inside the private terminal. Returning to the US, the jet clears customs at a designated US airport.

December to April is peak season for Caribbean private jet flights, with dry weather and full villas. Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks, especially around St Barts and Anguilla. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Late summer carries the highest storm risk.
